Light Sensitivity And Migraines in Questions
Light Sensitivity? Hi, Since the birth of my 3rd baby came a bunch of new things like my period got way heavier, and migraine heaches all the time and an extreme sensitivity to light. I have always been sensitive to light but not to this extreme. I have to have my computer's contrast turned way down along with the brightness, i have to sit at least 25feet from my tv, and i can never turn on my overhead light only a small lamp and going outside, well i can only do that if the sun isn't out. Some people have told me i have photophobia but i am not afraid of light i get severe migraines from it and it's the only time i do get a migraine. Has anyone else ever experienced similar things like this after childbirth and is there a cure for light sensitivity or am i just stuck with it? my user name is just a compilation of some really cool horror movies i like.

onelight replied: "Baby or not...you may have developed severe migraines as you say, which would make you more sensitive to light...See your doctor about this. And . . . on another note...What is up with your avatar name ? ! What is that about ? ."

d3v10u5b0y replied: "Well, obviously I am a guy, so the pregnancy thing - not so much. Though, I have recently, in the past year or so, developed an extreme sensitivity to light as well - quite similar to what you claim to be experiencing. I can barely drive, and have to squint one eye to see. Yet, my vision is perfect. Hopefully someone will answer who can shed some light (hopefully dim light) on the problem. Also, photophobia is not necessarily a fear of light, but an extreme sensitivity to light."

What's the solution for heightened light sensitivity? I get migraines when I go outside in the sun and in a fully lighted room. Wide brimmed hats and shades haven't worked, and I don't have photophobia. oh ffs. that's a really great answer. but come on. solution. i'm going to the beach for a company excursion, and I need a solution.

Tinkerbell_mel replied: "Try going out in the dark and don't turn the lights on. Use candle light. You should become a goth and get a night job too. The pay is more for the unsociable hours worked. Silver lining to every cloud as they say."

I have had a headache for 5 days. No nauseau or light sensitivity. Could it be a migraine? my headache started with sharp, stabbing pains behind left eye. Then it became a really bad headache. I even took a Zomig for migraines, but it didn't go away until 24 hours later.

Louise replied: "I get migraines often and even with medication sometimes they last for 3 days. You really should consult your primary care physician since it's lasted this long."

kimmi replied: "you probably have a sinus infection that will need antibiotic treatment."

3GOLDS replied: "I have headache's when I'm tired and Stressed, they can last for days. Drink lots of water, see your Doc. your hormoanes could be out of balance. Good Luck to you......I know how it is to live with a pounding head....not fun......."

Witchywoo replied: "It could be a migraine or it could also be that your body is detoxing from something. If you suddenly cut out caffeine from your diet, for instance, that can give you the mother of all headaches!"

zzzzz replied: "could be the key to getting rid of a migraine or cluster headache is to take the medication IMMEDIATELY when you feel it coming on once it gets a grip on you it will run it's course and the pain will last longer 5 days sounds like a really long time though actually too long see you doctor or eye specialist there may be another underlying medical problem causing your problem or excessive eye strain you could have had a flu or virus if it happens again please have it checked out"

dbgyog replied: "It seems so. There is no medicine for Headache, Migraine, Spondylosis, Commoncold, Hypertension, Diabetes, tinnitus and many other diseases. There is only disease management - taking medicines lifelong. If problem appears again approach to an acupuncturist, it is the only treatment. Some villagers give herbal treatment and is beneficial many times."

sony replied: "try Excedrin Migraine the best for headache"

shizzlechit replied: "If you're dehydrated it can cause headaches....drink lots lf fluids like gatorade and see if that helps"

aflower_66751 replied: "If you have ever had a real migrain, you would know that you wouldn't be able to stand it for 5 days. I had a migrain once that was so bad I couldn't do anything but lay perfectly still. When I had to go to the bathroom, I had to very very slowly slide off the sofa and crawl ever so slowly. I can take alot of pain too. By day 2 in the afternoon I couldn't take it anymore and very slowly crawled to my car and drove so slow 10 miles to my doctor. I was alone in the county. Doctor gave me a shot and just a couple minutes; wow, gone!"

piyu replied: "Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information available at"

Headaches from light sensitivity? My 6 year old has been complaining of headaches when coming home from school on a daily basis. It would usually go away within 30 minutes of her being home but now they persist and stick around like all evening and if she doesnt fall asleep right until bedtime. And sometimes they are accompanied by tummy aches. I was thinking that it because they use more of the blackboard this year but then she tells me that they use a projector. She says it makes her head/eyes hurt when they use the projector. But she also says that it is not blurry at all. So anyone have any ideas? Is this a she needs glasses type thing or is it possible she is suffering from light sensitive migraines? Has anyone experienced with their school age children or themselves?

Mr. Tippy replied: "Photophobia could be a reaction to some drugs or a symptom a disease. Any situation that causes the pupil to dilate and allow an excessive amount of light to enter may cause the condition. Left untreated, photophobia can cause very intense pain. If you experience any symptoms, see an eye physician."

What types of alcohol cause visual migraines? I've been having extreme light sensitivity and nausea. Does anyone know if champagne has been known to cause ocular migraines?

JJ replied: "idk, but i know someone who cant drink any kinda wine 'cept merlot because every other one gives her ubberr headaches if that helps"

6jsc5 replied: "Grain alcohol"

Tino M replied: "i heard some where that you can be allergic to wine and get sick off of it. i'm sure you can get sick off of chamgne, which is too bad because its sooooo good :D."

gmonte33 replied: "Red wine is a trigger for migraines in some people."

What could be wrong with my son...he has EXTREME light sensitivity, abdominal pain, coughing and lethargy? He is also having sleep disturbances and throat pain and the light sensitivity effects mostly his eyes but also his skin. He can't even go outside to play without keeping his whole body covered from the sun. If not, he starts itching like crazy. The doctors can't seem to figure out what's wrong with him and they keep sending him home with wishy-washy answers like..."Maybe it's a cat allergy" or "Perhaps it's the start of migraines." Does anyone have an idea of what this could be? Could it be Lupus or Porphyrea? He's about to turn 12 years old, and he isn't on any medications. He is on the autistic spectrum (very high functioning), but we are quite careful with his diet and the types of chemicals we allow in his environment.

Incognito replied: "Some medications can cause photo-sensitivity and other symptoms you describe. Is he on any drugs/meds? What's his age? He needs a total work up and you need to demand they test him to get a diagnosis. If not, take him elsewhere..."

52Perceptions replied: "There are a couple of possibilities that I can think of right now. It is wonderful that he is not on any medications as that could really complicate things. First, he could be having reaction to radiation. Radiation is present even when it is not sunny as it not the heat of the sun that is radiation, but a type of ray, and may not even be from the sun. There have already been enough man-made radiation sources to create plenty of problems for coming generations. Radiation accumulates in the body and can affect the kind of reactions you mention; absolutely. There is a solution for this however. There is a program existing that was developed by nuclear physicist and humanitarian L Ron Hubbard, that cleanses radiation from the body, and I believe is the most effective scientifically known technique for doing so. It is called the "Purification Rundown" or "Detoxification Program" and is run secularly by Narconon or by the Church of Scientology as "The Purification.Rundown." It consists of a qualified Doctor approving a person to begin, and then vitamins, minerals exercise and sweating in a sauna. I have seen kids as young as 8 successfully complete the program with huge benefits. Of course it is run on a lighter gradient for kids but monitored the whole way and so they get the same full results as adults. Many people have been through the program at places such as Chernobyl and Hiroshima, but also in suburban USA or as far away as New Zealand. By ridding the accumulation the person becomes a lot more resilient in their health and with much more energy. Lead poisoning could have a similar effect. Lead from old paint flaking and chalking, lead from amalgam tooth fillings. Second possibility is that it is psycho-somatic (brought about mentally but affecting the body nonetheless). For more answers to this the book "Dianetics: Modern Science of Mental Health" is the defining reference. Welcome to message me for more data on any of the above."

Zelda Hunter replied: "You should go get a second opinion from a good pediatrician. Did his doctor even bother to order a blood test? How about sending him to an allergist? I don't know anything about Porphyrea, but I know that Lupus is associated with light sensitivity. I once had a neighbor who had Lupus, and we had a dog who had it too. There are ways to rule out things like leukemia and diagnose auto-immune diseases with tests. Please find a new doctor - and if you have good medical insurance, I would recommend finding somebody at a children's hospital or a teaching hospital."

Chad A replied: "My brother has that very bad one itch like crazy so my brother went got that shot it did not work so he took a very clean must be his own soap no one can use it must be his called "sun block soap bar" I think that name of it but is soap you wash it like your taking bath put it on for 10 minutes set it on then wash very very good every where then dry very very good on a very clean towel after use towel throw it away that what my brother did or allergy come right back to him.. same with clothes you do not throw cloth away but ont wear it 8 hr a day it gets dirty in 4 hour sweat come on must change extra shirt and pant but under wears and socking are only ones you do not worry much they are not outside they are inside them clothes that what my brother said he is now 45 yrs old he had problem for 33 yrs.."

rani replied: "Sometimes,Allah breaks your spirit 2 save your soul. Sometimes , He breaks our heart 2 make us whole. Sometimes,Allah allows pain so we can be stronger. Sometimes Allah sends us failure so we can be humble. Sometimes Allah allows illness so we can take better care of ourselves. Sometimes, Allah takes everything away from us so we can learn the value of everything He gave us. Make plans but understand that we live by Allah's grace."

mgunnycappo replied: "Have him tested for Lupus as well as other auto immune diseases. Sun sensitivity/allergy is common among people with Lupus. Does he have any other symptoms besides the lethargy? Any achy joints or mouth or nose sores? I would definitely have him checked out. Get a copy of his lab work so that you are able to verify the results the doctor has given you. I'm sorry but I have to say this...did the guy above me just refer you to Scientology? My god, really? Wow."

Omg i didnt even think of that i have astigmatism, but i have corrective lenses too...So i usually associate my headaches with my glasses..... I didnt know that was a symptom of Astigmatism...Thank you...Ill be makin an appointment.

B replied: "My eyes are sensitive to light also. It causes me to get a headache and the headache wouldn't go away until I went to sleep. I would feel really drowsy and sick to my stomach. I had my eyes checked and had an astigmatism. I would take her to an optometrist and have her eyes checked. Here's a website that tells about an astigmatism: "

MissJane66 replied: "I owuld definatly check with a doctor maybe an eye doctor first. She could have a level of migranes set off by a certain light or food or stress"

gurusmith replied: "stop watching TVs, don't work in computers, dont use cell phone for some days, don't strain to study small letters. When you feel pain, take a garlic. peel and crush rubbed in the portion of your head you feel pain. or take a pepper and heat in the fire, get inhale the smoke. These are the traditional siddha medical treatments for migrains. Many more medicines are for this treatment."

cowboydoc replied: "Has the doctor tried Topamax for migraines and siezures, it works great try it."

is it normal for a twelve year old girl to suffer migraines? well, i have had a migraine all day. i threw up five times, i had cold sweat and chills, dizzyness, sensitivity to light and sound, and extreme headaches. my mom said she has migraines about twice a year. i read that it was a inharited disease? all i was wondering is that if it's normal for me, A TWELVE YEAR OLD GIRL, to have a migraine.

PontificalPape replied: "Well that depends on your definition of normal. It is not an average thing for a twelve-year-old to deal with but certainly not unheard-of. Most people that I know who get migrains got their first one during adolescence. I am sorry you have to deal with such pain and misery. Search for questions on here that deal with migraines to find help and comfort."

mlgable replied: "It is not inherited. Migraines are not unsual for any age but they are treatable. Have your mom take you to the doctor for a referal to a neurologist to get a diagnosis and get them treated or preventative medication started. If you get another one before your doc appointment don't suffer with it go to urgent care and get some migraines med for it."

prncessang228 replied: "this question would be better answered by a neurologist (brain doctor) or you family physician. if you've already started your period, there is a good chance that you're headaches are related. i get them at least twice a month and always around my period (one about 7 days before and one 7 days after). it has to do with the changes of my hormone levels around my period time. the best thing to do when you get one is -lie down in a cool, quiet, and dark room with a cool washcloth on your forehead. this will help relieve the pounding pain -drink something with caffeine in it once your nausea/vomiting has subsided. the caffeine helps stop the headache. -while waiting to see your dr, go to the store and get some excedrin migraine pills. these have 500mg ibuprofen plus caffeine in them. they work in a pinch -make an appt soon to see your dr. you might need prescription pills to help stop them (i take relpax for mine). migraines can last up to 3 days (mine have at their worst). the nausea/vomiting won't but the pain does. hope this helps!!"

moosadee replied: "Migraines can be treated,so see a doctor.I do not think you are too young to get migraines, however only you family doctor can diagnose you correctly.Tell your parents and get Mum or Dad to take along to see the doctor so they know for sure what is causing your headaches etc."

kd_jb2001 replied: "I got my first migraine when I was 9-10 years old. It is not normal, but not uncommon for a preteen to get migraines. It just means that you need to see your doctor and get some medicine to help with the pain and possibly prevent them. Migraines are not hereditary, some people get them and some dont. It could be brought on by stress or any number of other things. My first one lasted about a week and was brought on by stress from school. Good luck and hope you feel better soon...Also, looking at a computer screen does not help the pain to go away."
